Well, I moved out of residence and into Jana, Erin, and Val's place on Dumble on Sunday. Jana and I managed eventually to get moved in for the week, with a bit of hassle since the people moving out were still there a few hours longer than expected, and then worked on cleaning it up a bit. It's funny watching Jana be liberated from res food. So three o'clock rolls around - "Hey, I can cook! Real food!" That was mildly entertaining. Also, now being sans bus pass, we're actually getting exercise. I'd estimate we've probably walked a little over ten miles in the last two days and I biked another ten so far today. Plus, not having class or exams or really much of anything else to do, I got to read. So far I picked up and then promptly finished A Walk in the Woods (Bill Bryson), which is the tale of and reflections on randomly deciding to try to walk the Appalachian Trail (no small feat), and covers quite the range from hysterically funny to quite depressing (particularly with regard to our impact on the environment). This morning I started A World Without War: An Inquiry into the Basic Factors which Underlie Possible Roads to Peace (Walter Millis, Reinhold Niebuhr, Harrison Brown, James Real, William O. Douglas; 1961) which looks pretty interesting so far, and although it's set fairly early in the Cold War, is still pretty relevant (with the interesting aspect of being quite open about the now little-talked-about fact that the Soviet Union was in many respects technologically and militarily ahead of the US and NATO). Oh, I should also mention that being moved out of residence means my phone and internet accounts no longer exist, so don't try to use them. I'm on the internet at the Trent library at the moment, and they're blocking ports (I don't know why), so I can't send e-mail easily at the moment, but receiving is fine. (I did manage to get around the settings for IM already, so maybe e-mail will follow shortly. Otherwise I'll have to resort to webmail, which is annoying.) I'll be back next week, for anyone else that will be around.
